Set in the heart of one of Scotland’s most historical regions, Cairns Cottage is a wonderful highland retreat in the perfect spot for exploring ancient Dalriada.
A cosy one-bedroom cottage, with a wood-burning stove, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower, and a west-facing garden with views over fabulous countryside and to the Isle of Jura, this is the perfect place from which to discover the legends, history and breathtaking scenery of the Scottish Highlands.
Cairns Cottage has everything you need, including, in the living room, a large comfy sofa and a dining table. There are electric heaters in every room, as well as a wood-burning stove in the living room. (You’ll find kindling and wood to get you started, with more available at several places in nearby Lochgilphead).
There’s unlimited-use, fast broadband wifi and flat-screen TV. I gave up on trying to receive a reliable TV signal, but there’s an Apple TV that lets you stream video from your Apple device – including BBC iPlayer from the iPlayer app. You can also view Netflix, or sign in to your iTunes account to download the latest movies and TV shows (remember to sign out before you leave).
The west-facing garden has a table and chairs, so on nice evenings you can sit outside with a dram, watching the sunset over the Isle of Jura.
You’ll find basic provisions here when you arrive – tea, coffee, etc, and maybe a bottle of something to enjoy with dinner.
